Laura Gemser was an Indonesian-born actress and model who became famous mainly from her work in Italian exploitation films in the 1970s and 1980s. She was born on October 5, 1950, in Surabaya, Indonesia, and her birth name was Laurette Marcia Gemser. Gemser moved to the Netherlands with her family when she was a teenager, and began her career as a model. She then moved to Italy and started acting in a string of sexually explicit films such as the Emmanuelle series, Black Emanuelle, and Emanuelle in Bangkok. She collaborated with Italian director Joe D'Amato on numerous films, including the horror film Anthropophagus and the adventure film Blade Master. Gemser retired from acting in the late 1980s and devoted her time to her family and her art. She passed away on August 8, 2020, at the age of 69.
